Energy
Over the decades, we have been involved in the energy sector and we have become accustomed to the challenge of continuous change. In the last few years alone we have seen a resurgence of interest in nuclear power, vast fluctuations in the price of oil and a drive to commercialise renewable energy. We are fully committed to actively enhancing our capability to ensure we continue to operate at the forefront of the changing energy sector. What doesn't change however is our commitment to technical excellence and customer satisfaction.
In electricity generation, we support both conventional and nuclear sectors to maintain output and extend the life of assets, and we’re engaged in planning and enabling the next generation of nuclear power stations.
We have a long history supporting electricity transmission and distribution in the UK, providing design services and turnkey projects to upgrade and replace aging infrastructure. We also provide new connections for ‘local’ generation schemes.
The clean-up of the UK nuclear industry is underway with the formation of the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency, and Atkins has a significant presence in clean-up work at many of the UK’s nuclear sites. We also support regulators to develop their policies and processes.
Carbon reduction is vitally important to the threat of climate change, and we play a leading role managing government programmes on behalf of the Carbon Trust. We also provide consultancy services to the energy efficiency and renewable markets, ranging from school awareness programmes, to biomass & wind power developments.
