Atkins offers comprehensive mechanical engineering capability across a diverse range of sectors, including aerospace, defence, energy, water, rail and the built environment.
It has been said that nothing moves without mechanical engineering and here at Atkins the breadth and depth of our mechanical engineering knowledge is helping some of the world’s most critical infrastructure projects come to life.
From the design of aircraft high lift devices and water treatment plants, through to the latest building services systems, if you have a project that needs to get moving, Atkins can provide the services you need.
Here is an overview of some of the sectors to which Atkins provides mechanical engineering services:
The aerospace sector
The mechanical engineering services we provide to our aerospace clients include the design of mechanical systems; analysis; systems engineering, covering landing gear and fuel systems; and manufacturing engineering.
The defence sector
Within the defence sector, Atkins combines its understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals (component and system design and substantiation, static and dynamic stress analysis) with specific industry domain knowledge relevant to our clients.
We work throughout the product lifecycle, producing designs for new engineering components; assessing, validating or modifying existing components and structures to address issues over safety, function or life extension; and supporting decommissioning and disposal through design of specialist handling equipment.
The water sector
We offer a range of services from design (including 2D and innovative 3D CAD solutions), asset surveying and area asset planning through to hazard and operability assessment, across clean water treatment, sewage water treatment, pipework and pumping installations, cooling water systems and for fire fighting.
The rail sector
Within the rail and mass transit sectors, Atkins provides mechanical engineering services for rail fleet including the appraisal of modification proposals and managing investigations into mechanical component and system failures. We also provide mechanical building services which cover train tanking, toilet discharge, fire main design and specification, and carriage wash machines.
The built environment
