News releases 2015

Matt Browell-Hook, operations manager in Atkins’ oil and gas division, has been made a Professional Review Interviewer for the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE). Interviewers are appointed by the IMechE to provide expert guidance to the Institution staff, the professional review committee and where necessary other committees involved in the membership application process by the evaluation of an applicant’s written submission and presentation of the Professional Review at interview.

Matt said: “I’m delighted to be playing a role in the development of the next generation of engineers, and if there’s anything that my experience in the industry over the last decade has taught me it’s the importance of sharing knowledge.”

Atkins holds corporate accredited training membership for the IMechE through its development and implementation of the Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS) training scheme, within which Matt already acts as a mentor for Atkins graduates which puts him in a position to pass on his experience to the next generation, helping to guide those looking to become Chartered Engineers and use his industry knowledge to help the candidates’ own development.

Atkins has a long and distinguished history of supporting engineering institutions and accreditation as shown by its commitment to developing its staff. Highlighted by the two recent Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Fellowships awarded to two senior engineers in oil and gas, Paul Fowler and Jo Moffatt, further demonstrating Atkins’ commitment to career long learning and development. The ICE state that “Fellowship, our highest grade of membership, is for civil engineers and technicians who've made a big contribution to the profession. Fellows are often known and respected in the industry for their expertise.”

Matt is operations manager for Atkins’ oil and gas teams based in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Newcastle, and has responsibility for the Talisman Sinopec Energy UK framework delivering structural integrity management services embedded within the clients operational teams. Matt was named Engineering Professional of the Year category at the Association for Consultancy & Engineering (ACE) 2015 Engineering Excellence Awards in June and Young Consultant of the Year at the ACE and New Civil Engineer (NCE) 2013 Awards.
