News releases 2015

Atkins has joined forces with the Department for Transport and other leading organisations from across the private and public sectors to promote UK transport expertise at this year’s World Roads Congress in Seoul, Republic of Korea from the 2-6 November.

The five day event, organised by the World Road Association (WRA) focused on the central theme ‘Roads and Mobility – Creating New Value from Transport’, brings together experts and decision makers from across the globe in an effort to share industry knowledge, explore current challenges, provide solutions and grow opportunities for the transport sector. As environmental and technological developments continue to impact on the roads network, countries will face similar implications in areas such as management and performance; access and mobility; safety; and infrastructure. Jonathan Spear, Atkins’ technical director in Asia Pacific, who led a WRA Working Group from 2011 to 2015 on trends and outcomes in multi-modal governance in the transport sector, attended the congress, together with other experts from Atkins and a number of UK-based companies.

Jonathan commented, “The WRA has always offered a great opportunity for Atkins to share and develop knowledge in the roads and transport sector internationally, create value and advise on best practice with decision makers and partners in our sector. The research which we have been jointly leading on transport governance is a great example of this, based on key concepts, a range of case studies and contributions from across the World. The WRA Technical Committees and Congress offer an excellent opportunity to develop global professional relationships and networks, showcase Atkins’ thought leadership and share our knowledge across, and to the wider benefit, of the sector.”

The research was presented in Seoul followed by an active and insightful debate among industry experts from Australia, Sweden, France, Austria and Africa. It will be formally published as a report by the WRA in due course and support further work in the next WRA Cycle for 2016 – 2020.

The 26th World Roads Congress will take place in Abu Dhabi in October 2019.
