Mehdi Amjadi, principal process engineer in Atkins’ oil and gas team in Perth, Western Australia, has been elected as chairman of the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Western Australia branch.

Mehdi will be responsible for directing the local branch’s effort as ambassadors of IChemE in their region and assist in the delivery of the institution’s mission through events, technical meetings, networking, professional development and promotion of the chemical and process engineering profession. With a BSc and an MSc in chemical engineering and twelve years post graduate oil and gas industry experience, Mehdi is well-equipped to take on this new role.

Mehdi commented: “Australia represents 10% of IChemE’s global membership base, making it the third largest on the international membership table and the number of W. Australia members is around a quarter of the national member total. I’m looking forward to building and sustaining an active professional community in Western Australia. In particular, our state group network supports chemical engineers striving to achieve Chartered membership and promotes chemical engineering to industry and students.”
