Scott Tezak, PE, BSCP, has joined Atkins’ Federal business unit as a division director, focused on leading resilience, security, and emergency planning at federal facilities and critical infrastructure sites. He brings 25 years of experience in the fields of engineering and risk management.

Catherine Clinch, Atkins vice president and sector manager for civilian programs, said: “We are thrilled to have Scott join us. His combination of unmatched expertise in threat assessment and emergency planning along with actual field experience responding to natural disasters enables Atkins to offer our federal clients comprehensive resiliency solutions.”

Tezak specializes in security vulnerability assessments, risk mitigation and training, program management, and emergency preparedness planning. His past project work was primarily for federal and other government clients, including the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency. An expert in protection of critical and essential facilities, he was the national practice lead for security and emergency preparedness at TRC Solutions, where he led efforts in protecting facilities against natural and manmade disasters.

Tezak’s experience includes serving as program manager for a five-year, $35 million Technical Assistance and Research Contract for FEMA. He was responsible for facility assessments, security and natural hazard hardening of buildings, and emergency response planning.

A well respected industry expert, Tezak is chairman of the International Code Council’s Storm Shelters Standard Committee, which developed the first consensus design and construction standard for high wind storm shelters (the ICC 500). He is an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and ASIS International, a leading organization for security professionals.
