News releases 2016

Atkins has been appointed by Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water to provide consultancy services to help maintain a safe and reliable drinking water supply for 1.4m homes and businesses across Wales and parts of western England.

The £3m framework contract, which runs from July 2016 until 2019, will see Atkins deliver an array of technical services to support Welsh Water’s clean water network serving some three million people. The work will identify specific areas of the system which need renovating and require investment, and will involve the construction of hydraulic models to simulate how the water supply system will respond under various operational scenarios.

Services being provided by Atkins include: modelling and identification of water service related performance improvement requirements; the development of traditional and innovative asset and operational based solutions; feasibility studies; investment appraisals; and the design and development of solutions.

Gwion Kennard, Atkins Client Director, said: “Welsh Water is recognised as the leading water company for its progress in converting sustainable policies into real tangible outputs.  Its commitment to delivering sustainable solutions within their investment process resonates with the values of Atkins’ framework delivery team. We will identify solutions in AMP6 that will help to ensure that drinking water is safe and reliable, whilst also playing a role in safeguarding a sustainable environment for future generations”.

Geoff Keam, Atkins Principal Engineer, said: “At Atkins, we are experienced in advising and working with clients to respond to the challenges faced by the water industry, particularly in light of climate and economic changes. We are well positioned to advise our clients including Welsh Water on how to be resilient and future proof assets for the ultimate benefit of their customers”.

Atkins is working on three other frameworks for Welsh Water: a water resources framework, asset management framework, and a strategic drainage framework.
