Atkins has appointed Andrea Sterdis as director of licensing in its Energy Americas business.

Andrea will work as part of the commercial nuclear and speciality engineering team led by Michael Corum, vice president, operations in Atkins’ Energy Americas business. Her depth of knowledge and extensive industry experience will support not only on-going projects, it will act as a major benefit in helping to grow and develop Atkins’ commercial nuclear offering. Andrea will be specifically tasked with developing our commercial nuclear licensing business in the US and, in the process, establishing Atkins’ Energy Americas licensing group and capability.

Andrea said: “I’m excited about the opportunity to use my commercial operating and new plant experience and knowledge to develop a team that will bring regulatory and licensing expertise and products to the growing commercial nuclear and engineering division”.

With over 30 years’ working in a variety of positions at various levels in the nuclear energy sector, Andrea’s experience spans a number of disciplines including Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulation, permitting and licensing; nuclear safety evaluation and analysis; instrumentation design, engineering and implementation; environmental regulation and permitting; project management and planning; contract negotiations; new plant development; and decommissioning/nuclear waste management.

Prior to joining Atkins, Andrea was manager, V.C. Summer Units 2 and 3 Plant Support Engineering/Engineering Programs for SCANA, decommissioning nuclear regulatory affairs manager for SONGS; general manager, Nuclear Power Group (NPG) Fleet Projects for Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), and AP1000 manager, licensing and customer interface for Westinghouse Electric Company.
