News releases 2017

Atkins’ North America CEO George Nash has appointed new leadership to head its Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal business units. James R. (JR) Steele Jr., JD, is incoming director of the Federal operation and Kenneth (Ken) Burns Jr., PE, is incoming DOT director. Both appointments coincided with the start of the new year.

“The organization is fortunate to have talented, proven executives among our internal staff to lead our businesses. I’m confident that both Ken and JR will ensure our long-standing client relationships remain strong and growth in these segments accelerates by providing the highest level of service and delivery of optimal solutions to our clients,” said Nash.

Burns has nearly 30 years of experience in the transportation industry on assignments ranging from planning, engineering and design services to construction management. His work with Atkins spans more than 15 years, most recently as director of the Public and Private business unit, overseeing infrastructure projects at all levels of government, as well as the private sector. In his prior role Burns led the surface transportation business for the western United States.

Steele has nearly 20 years of legal and operational experience in the construction, architecture and engineering industry. With Atkins more than seven years, he most recently led mergers and acquisitions activities for Atkins North America. In his previous roles he served as the business manager for the former Strategic Ventures business unit and as associate general counsel for large-scale transportation projects and pursuits.
