Atkins, one of the world’s most respected design, engineering, and project management firms, has been selected by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Middle East District to support infrastructure improvement programs for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a coalition of countries surrounding the Arabian Gulf.

Atkins will assist USACE in support of GCC countries including Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman and Kuwait. Task orders for services will involve master planning, full design, design-build packages, utility surveys, environmental material testing and remediation, lifecycle cost analysis and other services. Atkins may also be involved in the design of facilities and infrastructure associated with the U.S. Defense Department’s Foreign Military Sales program.

“Through past projects with USACE and in the Middle East, Atkins has demonstrated the expertise and successful track record to deliver critical infrastructure design and other architectural and engineering services to address the needs of the GCC,” said Bill Pearce, senior project director, who will lead the effort for Atkins.

Atkins has worked on some of the largest and most important public infrastructure projects in the Middle East, including providing full multidisciplinary design and management of the civil works of the Dubai Metro. Services included geotechnical and site investigations, bored tunnels, viaducts and bridges, route alignment, environmental impact, noise reduction and landscaping.

“For 50 years, Atkins has provided unrivaled expertise in the Middle East region, designing such iconic structures as Bahrain’s World Trade Center, Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh Metro and UAE’s Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai,” said George Nash, CEO, Atkins, North America. “We look forward to further supporting USACE as it works with GCC governments to improve the quality of life for millions of people region-wide.”

Headquartered in Winchester, Virginia, USACE Middle East District provides engineering and construction services for U.S. military forces and allied foreign government organizations in the Middle East and Central Asia.
