Atkins, one of the world’s leading design, engineering, and project management consultancies, has appointed John Corley as director of its ports sector in the U.S. In his new role, Corley will lead efforts to expand ports and marine services in North America, focusing on expanding client service offerings, growing Atkins’ port footprint and driving project delivery excellence.

“John’s in-depth knowledge of the ports sector, trusted relationships in the industry and proven leadership capabilities will greatly enhance our delivery of client-focused services,” said Justin Jones, Intermodal business unit director.

Corley brings more than 20 years of global experience leading multimillion dollar port development projects. His background includes port and marine terminal planning, commercial management consulting, port privatization advisory and engineering consulting business unit leadership. Since joining Atkins as a senior division manager in January 2017, he has been working to expand Atkins’ ports and marine service offerings to the Midwest and Northeast regions of the U.S. Corley holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and a master’s degree in business administration.

For more than 50 years, Atkins has been assisting port authorities, terminal operators, carriers, waterfront industries and government agencies in development of the infrastructure to support their growing businesses. Atkins has provided engineering and environmental services for some of the largest and busiest ports in the country, including:

  • Port Everglades, Florida
  • Port of Houston, Texas
  • Port of Gulfport, Mississippi
  • Port of Los Angeles, California
  • PortMiami, Florida
  • Vopak Deer Park Terminal, Texas
