Transit options in the Las Vegas Valley are limited to standard bus system serving the entire community and a short monorail system marketed toward the tourists along the Las Vegas Strip. Bus rapid transit (BRT) was selected as the best option for the valley. Completed in multiple phases, the Downtown Connector project is the first BRT project released by the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada.
Atkins provided signal design for 10 intersections to accommodate the BRT vehicles, queue jump, and pedestrian access to the shelters. Atkins also provided civil design for the stations through all three phases including utility coordination, right-of-way services, and platform bus turnout design.
