Atkins prepared the final PS&E for approximately 10,000 ft of sound walls and retaining walls along Route 22 between Harbor Boulevard and Fairview Avenue in Santa Ana, and Route 91 between Acacia and Harbor Boulevard in Fullerton for Caltrans District 12.

The sound walls were placed along the right-of-way, and required several non-standard design features, such as crossing over storm drain boxes, utility interferences, existing structures and bridge interferences, etc. The sound walls are between 14 ft and 16 ft tall, and are made up of precast concrete panels founded on cast-in-drilled-hole piles. The design was carried out on a fast tracked schedule. Total project duration was two months.
