Regional leadership

Simon Moon, Chief executive officer, Middle East & Africa

Simon Moon joined Atkins in 1996 from British Aerospace (now BAe Systems) and has held a number of positions across the Group. In his early career with Atkins he led the UK Defence Systems businesses as managing director. He subsequently became commercial director for UK Design and Engineering Solutions, then Group business improvement director, before becoming managing director for UK Design and Engineering.

He joined the Middle East regional business in November 2011 as chief operating officer before assuming his current role as chief executive officer in November 2013.  Simon is a chartered mechanical engineer and fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Paul Shepherd-Smith, Managing director – Africa

Paul Shepherd-Smith became managing director – Africa in early 2016. Paul has enjoyed an international career that has taken him to culturally diverse locations around the world and seen him working on numerous large and complex major projects, including Dubai Metro. During his 11 years with Atkins he has successfully held technical, business and operational roles, with three years spent within the Groups’ global design centre in India.

Guy Arguin, HR director

Guy joined Atkins in February 2015. He previously worked for British American Tobacco for over 20 years across the Middle East, Scandinavia, France and Canada. Guy holds a Master’s Degree in Employee and Labour Relations for the Universite du Quebec a Hull, Canada and his a Certified Executive Coach from the Academy of Executive Coaching in London.

Lesley Desport, Country director, Qatar

Lesley Desport has been appointed Country director for Qatar in September 2016. She is also the Chair of the Institution of Civil Engineers in Qatar (ICE).  Lesley obtained a BEng Honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Strathclyde, UK and later returned to the same institution obtaining a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) in 2010.  She is a Chartered Engineer and was recently awarded the grade of Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (FICE).  Lesley is currently working towards acquiring an APM qualification. 

Campbell Gray, Managing director – Faithful+Gould

Campbell Gray is responsible for Faithful+Gould's operations in the Middle East region, with 20 years of technical advisory experience across infrastructure, energy, hospitality, health, education and property sectors.

Prior to joining the ME business, Campbell held the position of International PPP Director, with expertise on all three sides of the transaction process including; public sector advisory, consortia and funders, offering a truly rounded commercial perspective. Now responsible for the strategic growth of the Middle East business, he has some great lessons learned to share from his international transaction advisory experience.

Ghaith Hamade, Managing director, Saudi Arabia

Ghaith assumes the role of the managing director for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is a member of the Middle East Senior Leadership Team (ME SLT). He joined Atkins in 2001 as part of Atkins NA, previously known as PBS&J, and joined the Middle East business in January 2011. He holds a PhD in Geological Engineering from the School of Mines and Technology in South Dakota, USA and is a registered professional Civil Engineer in the state of Nevada, USA.

Tom Hasker, Managing director, Property

Tom Hasker joined the Atkins group in 2013.  He has more than 18 years’ extensive experience across client and design management, project management and property development and the construction industry.  He has delivered major projects and programmes in the hospitality, healthcare, retail and commercial sectors in the Middle East and Australia. Tom is responsible for the strategic growth of Atkins’ property sector activities across the Middle East, with a focus on the markets of the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman. 


Phil Malem, Managing director, Transport & Infrastructure

Phil Malem has been appointed Managing Director of Transport & infrastructure in the Middle East & Africa (MEA), from September 2016. Phil has been with Atkins for 7 years. He was previously managing director of Energy’s global Power and Renewables business, and already based in the Middle East. Phil brings with him a wealth of broad industry experience, strong capabilities in strategic client engagement and successful business leadership.

Marco Malpiedi, Managing director, Oman

Marco Malpiedi joined Atkins from Parsons in September 2013 as managing director for Oman. He has extensive experience in the region, including a period managing activities in Oman for Danish consultancy COWI, with whom Marco has spent much of his career since graduating in 1981. Among a number of senior international roles, he went on to spend three years on the company’s gulf executive board leading region-wide activities, in addition to time spent with Buro Happold as country director for the UAE.

Grant Porter, Finance director

Grant joined Atkins in November 2009 following 6 years as Finance Director for Hyder Consulting in the Middle East.  He has a First Class honours degree from The University of Stirling and has been a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland since 1995 having qualified with KPMG.

Dale Potts, Director, marketing and communcations

Dale Potts has been appointed Director, Marketing and Communications in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) . Dale is a chartered marketer (MCIM) and qualified building engineer and has spent her career in construction and engineering related contracting and professional services marketing and business development. She has been with the Atkins Group for 16 years and her area of expertise is in the construction and engineering sector, strategic marketing, branding and communications, business development, M&A Communications. Dale is also the communications director for Atkins Acuity.

Lyndon Richards

Lyndon is a UK qualified construction solicitor with over 20 years’ experience in private partnership acting on behalf of consultants, developers, contractors and sub-contractors. Expert in dispute work and the negotiation of contract documents.
