Background

When did you join Atkins?

I joined Atkins, formerly PBSJ, on 16 October 2000.

Why did you join?

At the time of joining, Atkins (formerly PBSJ) was growing and had a great reputation for environmental services in the energy industry in Texas. With the 2010 acquisition by Atkins, I am re-energized because I see these same qualities in Atkins - on a much larger scale.

What did you do before you joined Atkins?

After graduation I worked as an administrative assistant and then landed a job as an environmental consultant. With some experience under my belt, I applied for a position at Atkins (formerly PBSJ) and I’ve never doubted that I made the right decision.

Describe your role and responsibilities in one sentence

The management of projects and business development.

How do you describe what you do to friends and family?

My job is to help facilitate compliance with various environmental laws before a natural gas pipeline is built or a natural gas well is constructed and drilled. I also help determine where the path of least resistance is for electric transmission lines.

Projects

What projects do you work on?

Natural gas pipelines and electricity transmission lines.

What are you currently working on?

I am currently working on several natural gas pipelines in Louisiana that will connect various natural gas well locations located in Wildlife Management Areas and Wetland Reserve Program lands.

What’s the most technically challenging project you’ve worked on?

A commercial development project in Texas was technically challenging. The wetlands within the project limits were all primarily low quality and man-made but the local community valued them as if they were pristine. The project became a public relations challenge which presented many obstacles in obtaining the permit.

My career

What achievement are you most proud of?

In 2006, I was awarded a Founders’ Award for client service. This award is given to employees who have developed lasting relationships through their sincere desire to listen, learn and understand others.

How has your career developed at Atkins?

I have been incredibly blessed with a wonderful support system ever since I joined the team. I have always been given the opportunity to follow through with any reasonable ideas I’ve had to both success and failure which have been critical points in my career growth. This company has allowed me to succeed beyond any goals I might have had ten years ago.

The Atkins factor

How do project managers make a difference?

Our first priority is always to deliver the best possible service to the client with the intent of building a lasting and trusting relationship with all of our clients.

How would you describe the culture at Atkins?

Entrepreneurial and with enough structure to keep everyone on the same track and working towards similar goals.
