Atkins becomes first single service provider in Highways Agency market place - 04 March 2008
The Highways Agency has appointed Atkins as the Managing Agent Contractor (MAC) for its Area 6 network.
Atkins will be providing integrated highway management and maintenance services for almost 1300 km of motorway and trunk roads within the counties of Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk. The new contract is worth £100 million over five years, with the potential for an extension up to 2015.
Atkins has been delivering highway services to the HA in Area 6 as a Managing Agent since 2001. As such, this appointment is a major ‘vote of confidence’ in the work carried out to date.
Philip Hoare, managing director of Atkins’ Highway Services division, said: “We are delighted to have secured this opportunity to work in partnership with the Highways Agency in Area 6. This is a great step forward for us as a business in becoming the first single service provider in the HA market place.
“It also confirms our position as the leading provider of integrated highway services in the UK. We are very proud of this achievement and will work hard with the HA to make Area 6 a flagship MAC, in terms of both value for money and sustainability.”

The new contract starts on 1 June 2008.
